IPTV Smarters is gone from the App Store — what now?
Updated June 2026
What happened
In early 2026, IPTV Smarters Pro — one of the most-downloaded IPTV players anywhere — was removed from Apple's App Store and Google Play, along with roughly three dozen other IPTV apps, following legal action by a major broadcast rights holder. Courts found the targeted apps were being widely used to watch pirated streams, and the stores complied. Two things are worth understanding: it was rights-holder legal pressure, not an Apple policy change, and neutral players that ship no content remain on the App Store.
The important part: your subscription still works
Smarters was only ever a player. Your channels, guide data, and VOD come from your IPTV provider, and they're delivered through the same two standards every serious player supports: an Xtream Codes login (server URL + username + password) or an M3U playlist URL. Install a different player, enter the same credentials, and everything comes back. Nothing about your service changed.
Watch out for the clone apps
Since the removal, a number of apps from unrelated developers using "Smarters" in their names have appeared in App Store search. Some may be fine; some are opportunistic. Before you type your provider credentials into anything, check the developer name and ask what the app does with your login. (This matters more than people think: your Xtream credentials are a paid account.)
A good home on Apple TV
If your living-room box is an Apple TV, consider a player actually built for tvOS rather than a cross-platform port. Velko is a native SwiftUI Apple TV player:
- Classic, fast TV guide with full EPG — the same guide-first experience Smarters users are used to, but remote-native
- Same login: Xtream Codes or M3U, with multiple profiles for multiple sources
- Catch-up — press and hold a channel to replay the last 24 hours (on providers with an archive)
- Privacy by design: no accounts, no tracking, no Velko servers — your credentials never leave your device's Keychain, and favorites sync across Apple TVs through your own iCloud
- Free Community TV (public channels from the open-source iptv-org project) with no time limits, no ads, no watermark
- Velko Pro for your own provider: $2.99/month, $24.99/year, or a one-time $39.99 Lifetime — 7-day free trial
Not the only option, either — UHF and IPTVX are established native players too. We compare all three honestly in Velko vs UHF vs IPTVX.
One housekeeping tip for ex-Smarters users
If you saved multiple playlists or logins in Smarters, gather them before switching (your provider's signup email has them, or your provider can resend). In Velko each one becomes a profile you can switch between without signing out.
